Twenty years ago, Lionel Kreff was making wine in my hometown in India. Apparently, we were building bridges to Bordeaux before we knew we would need them.

Today, his friendship is part of the Bordeaux Kunal and I want to share with you. Through Maison Mittal, we have built relationships with people whose knowledge, generosity, and devotion to their work have deepened our own ambitions. This November, we invite you into their company.

Five days of château visits, a cooperage, Saint-Émilion, a possible excursion into Cognac, and conversations that deserve a second bottle.

Come for the wines. Leave with people to return for.

Monday, November 1 | An Evening in Bordeaux

Bordeaux after dark, from our travels.

Bordeaux after dark, from our travels.

Arrive, settle in, and let Bordeaux make its introduction. We’ll begin with a proposed afternoon visit to Bassins des Lumières, where art, music, and reflections fill a former submarine base. Then we’ll gather for our first dinner together.

  • Afternoon: Arrivals, hotel check-in, and time to rest.
  • Approximately 4:00 PM: Bassins des Lumières.
  • 7:30 PM: Welcome dinner in Bordeaux.

Overnight: Bordeaux

November 1 is a French public holiday. The afternoon schedule will accommodate arrival times and confirmed opening hours.

Tuesday, November 2 | The Médoc, With Time for Lunch

We’ll spend our first full day on the Left Bank, visiting two châteaux and gathering for lunch in the Médoc.

For Kunal and me, these visits are opportunities to understand how other people think. What do they recognise in their land? What have they changed their minds about? What are they willing to wait for? Those questions continue to inform our work in Willow Creek and Saint-Émilion.

There will, of course, be wine to help the discussion along.

  • 8:30 AM: Depart Bordeaux after breakfast and checkout.
  • 10:00 AM: First château tour and tasting.
  • 12:00 PM: Lunch in the Médoc.
  • 2:00 PM: Second château tour and tasting.
  • Late afternoon: Transfer to Saint-Émilion or Libourne and check into our hotel.
  • Evening: Casual dinner.

Overnight: Saint-Émilion or Libourne

Châteaux and lunch venue to be announced.

Wednesday, November 3 | Follow Your Curiosity

Today offers two programmes. Join us for the cooperage and Cognac excursion, or enjoy a winery visit and a leisurely afternoon on the Right Bank.

Option One | Tonnellerie Baron & Cognac

Our friend Lionel Kreff is helping arrange a visit to Tonnellerie Baron, whose counsel and cooperage have helped shape Maison Mittal’s Bordeaux chapter.

When Lionel asked whether we wanted a cooperage tour or simply lunch, the answer was easy. We wanted to see the work. We also saw no reason to decline lunch.

The morning will explore the knowledge behind barrel-making, from oak selection and seasoning to construction and toasting. After lunch with our hosts, we hope to continue to Tessendier, producer of Park Cognac, for a visit and tasting.

  • 8:00 AM: Depart the hotel.
  • 10:00 AM: Cooperage tour at Tonnellerie Baron.
  • 12:00 PM: Lunch at the cooperage or a nearby restaurant.
  • Afternoon: Proposed Tessendier/Park Cognac visit and tasting.
  • Approximately 6:00–6:30 PM: Return to the hotel.
  • Evening: At leisure.

The Cognac visit remains subject to confirmation.

Option Two | Right Bank Wines & Time to Wander

Stay closer to our hotel for a group winery visit, lunch, and an afternoon of your own.

  • 10:30 AM: Right Bank winery tour and tasting.
  • 12:30 PM: Lunch.
  • Afternoon: Explore Saint-Émilion or Libourne, browse the shops, or relax.
  • Evening: At leisure.

Winery to be announced. The two programmes run separately, so please choose one.

Overnight: Same Right Bank hotel

Thursday, November 4 | Saint-Émilion, Above & Below

In the cellars at Le Châtelet.

A moment from our Saint-Émilion travels.

A moment from our Saint-Émilion travels.

We’ll begin beneath Saint-Émilion’s streets, exploring its underground monuments, before returning to the village for a walk and lunch.

In the afternoon, we plan to visit Château Le Châtelet, our estate partner and an important part of Maison Mittal’s Bordeaux story. Here, Julien Berjal’s work carries forward a family relationship with the land while continually exploring how its wines can evolve. We look forward to sharing the place behind bottles you have welcomed into your own homes.

We are also working toward a visit to Château La Conseillante in Pomerol. It is one of my favourite wines in Bordeaux. I have made this known to Lionel with what I consider admirable restraint. He may have another account.

That evening, we’ll gather for dinner with Lionel Kreff in Saint-Émilion.

  • 9:00 AM: Guided tour of Saint-Émilion’s underground monuments.
  • 10:00 AM: Village exploring and coffee.
  • 11:45 AM: Lunch in Saint-Émilion.
  • 1:30 PM: Proposed Le Châtelet visit and tasting.
  • 3:15 PM: Proposed La Conseillante visit.
  • Late afternoon: Return to the hotel and rest.
  • 7:30 PM: Dinner with Lionel Kreff.

Overnight: Same Right Bank hotel

Estate appointments and group access remain subject to confirmation.

Friday, November 5 | A Hoped-for Finale at Cheval Blanc

We are working toward a morning visit to Château Cheval Blanc before departing for Munich.

Its place in this journey reflects the curiosity behind Maison Mittal: how an estate sustains an extraordinary standard across generations while continuing to question and develop its practices. We hope to explore a little of that thinking together.

  • Early morning: Breakfast, checkout, and departure with luggage.
  • Morning: Proposed Cheval Blanc visit.
  • Following the visit: Direct transfer to Bordeaux Airport.
  • Later that day: Onward flight to Munich.

Cheval Blanc is subject to access and flight timing. The visit may move to Thursday. Please coordinate with us before booking your Bordeaux–Munich flight.
