2023 LXV Wine Syrah Reserve Bien Nacido Vineyard
A Gonon Saint Joseph-like nose of ripe black and blue fruits, crushed stone, black pepper, and violets emerges from the 2023 Syrah Reserve Bien Nacido Vineyard. Aged 17 months in large-format Darnajou and Ermitage puncheons, it's medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with a pure, seamless palate profile. There are no hard edges, the acidity is perfectly integrated, and it has an outstanding finish. This is a real “wow” wine as well as the finest I've tasted from this producer, and you could put this up with the top wines out there. Give it a year or two and enjoy over the following decade or more. Drink 2026-2036.

It might have a touch more elegance than the Maison Mittal Armaa.N Estate, but both of these are brilliant wines that will be long-lived. Drink 2026-2041.

It should evolve for 8-10 years if properly stored.

Its deep purple hue gives way to a beautiful, elegant, almost Margaux-like red revealing lots of perfumed red fruits, sappy herbs, sandalwood, and leafy underbrush aromas and flavors. It's medium to full-bodied and has a terrific sense of elegance as well as a great finish.

Blackcurrants, sappy tobacco, and leafy herbs define the bouquet, and it's powerful and inky-hued, with an opulent, deep, layered mouthfeel, ripe, integrated tannins, and a good sense of freshness. It's a solid Bordeaux-style release that's going to have at least 10-12 years of evolution, and possibly quite a bit more depending on how it evolves. There's lots to like here. Drink 2026-2038.

Polished, incredibly elegant and silky on the palate, it's a terrific wine that's already hard to resist. Nevertheless, my money is on it aging gracefully gives its balance and purity.

Lastly, the 2014 Secret Craving is made from close to equal amounts of Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Merlot and was brought up entirely in 15% new French oak for 20 months. It has a deep purple/ruby color as well as notes of black raspberries, blueberries, incense and white pepper. It's another ripe, beautifully textured, hedonistic effort that has rock solid balance and the charming, forward style of the vintage.

Crafted by Indian-American-owned LXV Wine (co-owner Neeta Mittal's mother lives in a small town south of Mumbai), this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon gives dark berries, dried plums and Christmas spices on the nose. The tannins are surprisingly reined in, with all structural elements, including the alcohol, beautifully balanced. Mocha notes linger on the back palate. This wine begs to be paired with food and stands out in a challenging vintage.

It will evolve for upwards of a decade, but I like it today as well.

Lastly, the 2018 Cabernet Franc Reserve (100% Cabernet Franc from the Haar Family Vineyard) has an exotic nose of spring flowers, incense, damp earth, and chocolaty red and black fruits. More medium to full-bodied on the palate, it shows a slightly sappy edge, yet has ripe tannins and good length. It has outstanding potential, but I suspect 2-4 years of bottle age will be warranted.

LXV Wine Cabernet Franc Reserve
The 2017 Cabernet Franc Reserve needs plenty of air to show at its best and offers lots of herbal Cabernet Franc characteristics in its nose of forest floor, dark chocolate, cedar, and black fruits. Medium-bodied, nicely balanced, and with ripe tannins, with a Loire-like edge, it will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and should keep for 7-8 years or more.

We chose to visit LXV Tasting Room on a lark and so glad we experienced their spice and wine pairing. This was a mind blowing experience. Having lived in Napa for four years and belonging to wine clubs such as Far Niente, Darioush, Cauvison etc. this turned out to be a unique and enjoyable place. We chose to join the club even though we live in Southern California in Orange County. Their blanc cab Frank and blank blanc Sangiovese are exceptional. I highly recommend the experience if you’re anywhere near Paso Robles.

LXV is a true hidden gem in downtown Paso Robles. This small, family-owned winery offers an great selection of wines. The tasting room is intimate, comfortable, and tastefully decorated, creating a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy great wine.
What really makes this place stand out is the people. The staff and owners are wonderful friendly, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable, making the entire experience feel warm and engaging. LXV is especially known for pairing wine with custom spice and flavor experiences that complement the tasting.
They traditional wine tasting and a wine-and-cheese pairing experience (which I highly recommend). The cheeses are coated with the different blends of LXV’s own herbs and spices, adding a unique layer of flavor to each tasting. If you enjoy cooking or simply appreciate bold, and well balanced flavors, chances are you’ll leave with a few spice blends to take home along with a bottle or two of wine.

What a delightful find! LXV offers an incredibly unique experience that will leave you wondering how you could ever return to a traditional wine tasting again! They pair their beautifully blended wines with spices from around the world all while weaving a story of the human experience of continual growth and betterment. Matthew was personable, adaptable, and deeply knowledgeable. This was not a memorized script but a sharing from a much deeper experience and love of what he does! Do not miss this experience!!

LXV is magical. We have been there a few times now. It is one of the few wineries that we always say that it is, each time, even better than we remembered. So smooth, so berrilicious (made up word but it works!), complex, and just so enjoyable. Now our goal is to resist temptation and actually let them age! We bought a 2015 this time, among others, so we would have one to drink now! Neeta was there and so gracious as was everyone who helped us today! Join this wine club too! Well worth it!
