TROPICAL Passion fruit, guava and papaya lead into pineapple and lilikoi.
TEXTURED Sémillon and subtle oak bring a fuller mid-palate, with notes of vanilla bean, orgeat and lemon meringue.
FRESH Pacific-cooled evenings preserve the acidity that keeps all that tropical richness lifted.
Color:Pale straw with golden highlights
Nose:Passion fruit, guava, papaya — a hike through the forest in Maui. Combines with oak nuance to give hints of Bananas Foster and Pineapple Upside Down Cake. Lilikoi foam, hints of homemade lemon meringue, subtle vanilla bean and orgeat.
Palate:Great texture for a Sauvignon Blanc base, full mid-palate, but still shows enough acid presence to push the wine onto the back of the tongue. Subtle notes of vanilla bean and orgeat. Like being a bartender on a Maui beach near Kapalua.
WHY VOGELZANG?
Warm days. Cold nights. One remarkable vineyard.
Vogelzang sits at roughly 800 feet in Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara, an AVA shaped by an unusual combination of heat and Pacific influence.
Morning fog burns away earlier here, giving Bordeaux varieties a longer, warmer growing day. By late afternoon, marine winds move through Santa Ynez Valley's east-west mountain corridor and temperatures fall quickly.
The vineyard's gravelly loam soils drain easily, naturally limiting vigor and concentrating the fruit.
For this wine, that combination gives us exactly what we want: ripe tropical character, texture and generosity—without sacrificing freshness.
