"description": "Tasting Notes | Lots of bright, tart fruit showing on the initial nose, with a focused burst of rainier cherries and blackberries. As the nose evolves, more herbal notes of Benedictine and star anise emerge along with rosehip and linalool notes. On the palate, flavors of cola berry sarsaparilla emerge paired with continental stone fruit notes of Blenheim apricots and Georgia peaches. The palate is a reverse funnel, starting narrow with a laser-like acid driven focus, then widening significantly to display big, chewy rustic tannins with a spectacularly long finish. It's safe to say that this is the most Barbaresco like Nebbiolo that we’ve made to date! Vinification | The two lots for this wine were harvested early in the morning so that the fruit would be cool for processing at the winery. Both lots were fermented in temperature controlled, stainless steel tanks, and subsequently pressed to French oak barrels and aged for 16 months prior to bottling. Aging and Duration | Aged in 2 French oak puncheons and 1 French oak barrique, all neutral, for 16 months prior to bottling.",

Generous acidity. Number of Barrels: 5 Alc: 15.2% | pH: 3.59 | RS: 0.0 Accolades: 99 POINTS, Jeb Dunnuck “A Gonon Saint Joseph-like nose of ripe black and blue fruits, crushed stone, black pepper, and violets emerges from the 2023 Syrah Reserve Bien Nacido Vineyard. Aged 17 months in large-format Darnajou and Ermitage puncheons, it's medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with a pure, seamless palate profile. There are no hard edges, the acidity is perfectly integrated, and it has an outstanding finish. This is a real \"wow\" wine as well as the finest I've tasted from this producer, and you could put this up with the top wines out there. Give it a year or two and enjoy over the following decade or more. Drink 2026-2036.” —Jeb Dunnuck",

"description": "Tasting Notes: The 2023 LXV Jewel captivates with a vibrant ruby hue, exuding a delicately perfumed nose of violets and blue flowers, layered with fresh raspberries and an assortment of red fruits. As the wine opens, nuances of freshly ground espresso beans enrich the bouquet. On the palate, a lush array of forest fruits including raspberries, blackberries, and lingonberries, are beautifully intertwined with hints of baking spice, cedarwood, and bouquet garni. The wine's body is robust, with a texture that promises substantial depth and the potential for significant aging. Color: Vibrant ruby, clear and bright. Nose: Delicately perfumed with violets and blue flowers, followed by fresh raspberries and a variety of red fruits, with emerging notes of espresso as it opens. Palate: Rich with forest fruits like raspberries, blackberries, and lingonberries, complemented by baking spice, cedarwood, and bouquet garni, culminating in a textured, weighty finish. Vineyard Terroir The Sangiovese grapes come from the esteemed Santa Ynez Vineyard in Happy Canyon and the Camp 4 Vineyard in Santa Barbara County, known for their warm microclimates that are ideal for Sangiovese. The Petit Verdot is sourced from ONX Estate Vineyard in the cooler Templeton Gap, adding structure and color to the blend. Elevage Aged for 18 months in a combination of French and Slavonian oak barrels, including 225L barriques and 500L puncheons, of which 35% were new. This mix allows the wine to develop a refined complexity and soft tannins, with the larger puncheons providing a slower oxidation process, thereby enhancing the wine's elegance and preserving its fruit integrity. Vintage Description The 2023 vintage in the Central Coast was marked by an early onset of warmth, accelerating grape maturation. Strategic vineyard management was essential to harness the full potential of the grapes, resulting in a wine with well-developed flavors and balanced structure. Food Pairings Nature of Dishes: Best with dishes that complement its floral and fruity profile. Specific Dishes: A perfect match for duck with berry sauce, herb-crusted lamb chops, or a rich mushroom and truffle pasta.",

"description": "Tasting Notes: The 2023 LXV Spell is a compelling blend, deep purple in color, offering a nose laden with savory notes of carpaccio and leather, complemented by fresh blueberries and plums. The palate is robust, featuring a melange of dried salumi, dark blackberries, and currants, with a vibrant pop of acidity to balance its substantial weight, and concludes with a long, flavorful finish of green peppercorn and baker’s chocolate. Color: Deep purple. Nose: Savory carpaccio, leather, with hints of fresh blueberries and plums. Palate: Dried salumi, dark blackberries, currants, balanced with a late pop of acidity and a finish of green peppercorn and baker’s chocolate. Vineyard Terroir The grapes come from diverse vineyards across the Central Coast, including the Dairy Vineyard in SB County and Armaan Vineyard in Willow Creek, benefiting from varied microclimates that contribute layers of complexity to the blend. Elevage This robust blend was matured for 18 months in a combination of French oak barriques and puncheons, 30% of which were new. The choice of French oak is pivotal for its well-known ability to impart structured tannins and a complex array of flavors ranging from vanilla to subtle spice notes, enhancing the deep, savory characteristics of both Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The proportion of new oak is carefully balanced to enrich the wine’s body and complexity without masking its layered aromatic profile. The wine was aged in French oak barrels from the Montpensier forest, known for its fine-grained wood. These single-forest barrels, matured for 30 months, impart light spicy notes, beautiful texture, and volume on the palate, enhancing the wine’s fruity character while respecting its inherent qualities. Nose: Intensely aromatic with black cherry, cassis, and red plum. As it opens, layers of violet, bell pepper, graphite, cedar, tobacco, and a hint of earthy forest floor emerge, complemented by sweet spices like cinnamon and clove. Palate: Full-bodied with a harmonious balance of acidity and tannins. Flavors of ripe dark fruits, such as blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, dominate the palate. Mid-palate complexity includes green peppercorn, dried herbs, and a distinctive minerality from the calcareous soils. The clarity and brightness signal both freshness and aromatic lift. Nose | Expressive and high-toned from the first swirl. Rainier cherry, raspberry, dragon fruit, and rambutan lead with joyful immediacy. Beneath the bright fruit sits a distinctive aromatic layer of Kona peaberry coffee—airy, lifted, almost floral in its roast profile. Subtle bakery notes (vanilla, sweet pastry dough) mingle with warm spice, evoking a morning panadería and freshly baked conchas. A faint morel-earth nuance adds savory umami depth without weighing the wine down. Palate| Fresh, direct, and purposefully energetic. A bright pop of acidity hits the center of the palate, radiating outward and sparking thirst. The red-fruit brightness transitions into a darker, more structured core—blueberry, plum, and morello cherry—before widening into a full, layered finish. The mid-palate is quick and clean, allowing the finish to take center stage: oak-derived vanilla, pastry, warm spice, and a return of those high-toned coffee aromatics. Fine-grained, well-defined tannins frame the wine without interrupting its flow. The interplay of tension and savor—the acidity, the umami hint of morels—builds a finish that lingers and pulls you back in. Vineyard | The combination of fractured calcareous soils and steep aspects drives small berries, concentrated flavors, and a tension that reads as mineral precision rather than weight. G2-North is known for producing Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon with distinct verve — bright red fruit, fine-grained tannin, and a savory thread that comes from the site’s diurnal shifts. In 2022, the block delivered remarkable purity: high-toned aromatics, electric acidity, and a structural elegance that makes the wine both expressive now and promising for the cellar. Winemaking | Jeff Strekas & Frederick Ammons Harvested in small, focused passes to preserve G2-North’s natural brightness and aromatic lift. Fermentation was intentionally gentle, emphasizing clarity of fruit, fine-grained tannin, and the site’s linear, energetic profile. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon lots were blended early to integrate red-fruit tension with darker structural depth. Elevage | Aged in a mix of barriques selected for nuance rather than weight. Oak adds subtle vanilla, pastry warmth, and textural polish while keeping the wine’s high-toned fruit, mineral line, and vibrant acidity at the forefront. The finish widens and lengthens with time in barrel, delivering a poised, food-friendly structure. This lot was unfiltered and unfined.",

Nose | Bold and inviting. Crushed red fruit, strawberry coulis, and black plum form the heart of the aromatic profile, supported by warm tobacco leaf and a faint herbal lift from the Cabernet Franc. Hints of cocoa powder, dried rose, and a gentle resin note add nuance as the wine opens with air. Palate| Structured, confident, and generous without being heavy. The Merlot delivers plush, ripe fruit—plum, cherry, a touch of raspberry—while the Franc tightens the frame with freshness, tension, and a vertical mineral line. The wine expands gradually across the palate: friendly at the front, increasingly serious through the mid-palate, and finishing with savory depth. Fine, well-present tannins echo the G2-North signature—energetic, integrated, and food-friendly. Proper aeration elevates the wine’s detail and brings out its layered charm. Vineyard | G2-North’s limestone soils and cooling evening winds yield Merlot with lifted aromatics, natural acidity, and a polished structure—not the broad, soft expression typical of warmer sites. The Cabernet Franc component enhances the block’s inherent tension, adding savory detail, freshness, and shape. The 2022 vintage showcases the site’s ability to combine generosity with precision. Winemaking | Jeff Strekas & Frederick Ammons Harvested in small lots to capture both Merlot’s plush mid-palate and the Franc’s linear structure. Fermentation was kept gentle and temperature-controlled to preserve aromatics and avoid heaviness, with cap management tailored to maintain the wine’s clarity, freshness, and fine-grained tannins. The blend was assembled early to encourage seamless integration. Elevage | Aged in select barriques chosen for refinement, not weight. Nose | Old-world from the very first breath. Warm tobacco, forest floor, dried herbs, and sous bois form the aromatic spine. As the wine opens, finer details emerge: violets, dried strawberry, and a dusting of cocoa. A hint of oak boisage shows in its youth, adding spice and a slightly powdery frame. Day two brings a deeper familiarity—generous fruit wrapped around unmistakable right-bank pedigree. Palate| Bold, grounded, and unapologetically traditional. Dark fruit leads—black plum, black cherry—wrapped in medium- to large-grained tannins that are present, rustic, and slightly sticky in their youth. The wine enters rich and confident before narrowing into a shorter, more compact evolution on Day 1. With aeration, the wine grows more layered: herbal complexity, a touch of sous bois, and a lively acidity that keeps the palate lifted. There is a playful, jovial quality at first (Jupiter), but the finish shows a more serious austerity (Saturn)—a reminder of its structure, its terroir, and its trajectory. No excess sweetness, no softness; this is a wine that speaks in the classical dialect of Saint-Émilion. Vineyard | La Tour Pérey sits at the foot of the Saint-Émilion limestone slopes—what we’d call a “bench” in Napa—where gravel, river deposits, and alluvium mingle with pockets of clay. Gravel and sand bring warmth, faster ripening, and power; the clay preserves moisture, acidity, and lift. This zone is known for Cabernet Franc with aromatic lift and savory structure, and Merlot with depth and richness. The 2022 vintage reflects this duality clearly: generous ripeness balanced by freshness, forest-floor complexity, and the tension needed for graceful aging. Winemaking | Jean-Luc Marteau & Frederick Ammons Fermented with an emphasis on preserving aromatic depth and honoring the vineyard’s classical profile. Extraction was kept moderate to capture the natural power of the tannins without pushing them into aggression. Each variety was vinified separately to maintain purity of fruit and structural precision, then blended to highlight Franc’s energy, Merlot’s generosity, and the Sauvignon’s architectural frame. Elevage | The Merlot was aged in concrete eggs, intentionally chosen to preserve its purity, fruit brightness, and textural roundness while avoiding any additional oak weight. Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon matured in French barriques—including a calibrated portion of new oak—to build structure, integrate the boisage notes, and frame the wine’s darker profile. Together, the élevage creates the wine’s dual personality: jovial at the front, serious and classically austere at the finish, with tannins that will refine beautifully with time. This lot was unfiltered and unfined.",

Cedar, cigar box, and pipe tobacco lift from the glass, layered with bright red cassis, raspberry, and a touch of Chambord. Subtle current buds and riparian resin—willow, cottonwood—add an herbal-mineral elegance. Oak is beautifully integrated, contributing focus rather than perfume. Early heating allowed for full extraction of structure-providing grapeskin tannins, while later cooling ensured a smooth fermentation and full phenolic integration. The lot was pressed with a small, 12 hL basket press, settled, and then transferred to French oak barrels from a mix of four different cooperages. The beautiful, lift of acidy is perfectly paired the breathy palate weight. The up-front core of black fruit is wonderfully matched by the lengthy, spice box driven finish. Winemaker Comments The Secret is always our homage to the left bank of the Bordeaux. Cabernet driven, but typically with meaningful amounts of Merlot or PV, in 2022 both varieties would contribute to this impeccably balanced, tasty wine. Winemaking: Picked cold and processed into appropriately sized tanks, these lots were kept on skins for a range of 10-20 days in order to manage extraction appropriately. PV always receives the least maceration time due to its prolific tannins. Number of Cases Produced: 325 LXV Spice Pairing: Butter Chicken",

An explosive nose immediately upon pouring. As it spreads across the palate, the structure of this wine becomes evident, with refined tannins vying with notes of cassis, raspberry, and graphite for attention. As the wine warms on the tongue Franc like notes of vibernum and white peppercorn begin to emerge. The long lasting finish of this wine trails of with notes of butterscotch and drying fine grained, refined tannins. The Tempo is always our homage to the right bank of the Bordeaux. While this is the first year it worked out to add any PV to the mix, it only happened because the 2022 Verdot was so supple, soft in tannin, and floral, making it a perfect complement to the Merlot and Cabernet Franc. We think you’ll find this and expressive addition to the 2022 lineup! Wine Making: Taking advantage of the beautiful weather that allowed full tannin maturation and ripeness, the grapes were fermented and macerated on skins for 15-21 days before being pressed into barrel. Gentle, frequent punch downs were used to manage the extraction and ensure balanced, complex final wine.- Jeff Strekas & Frederick Ammons, Winemakers Number of Cases Produced: 300 LXV Spice Pairing: Mystic Orient, Smolder Notes",

Nose: The nose of this unique wine is filled with fresh fruit and botanical notes. White cherries and white peaches immediately jump out of the glass. Hints of muskmelon and guanabana are present along with traces of violets. Palate: On the palate, the blanc de franc shows lots of layering of textures. Combining electric, acid driven textures that run across the tongue with heavier character of the Franc grape itself and the plush, weightiness from the sur lie elevage, this is one serious, contemplative white. The finish drives home with the flavor of cherimoyas and vanilla bean. We’re sure tasting this wine is going to make you want to make sure to stock up on more! Winemaker Comments: While we have made a blanc de Sangiovese for a couple of years now, this was our first effort to appease Kunal and create a white wine made from Cabernet Franc. We selected a vineyard with an appropriate microclimate and sun exposure to burn off the pyrizines early in order to make a delicious, low alcohol white from that variety. After gentle pressing, the wine was fermented in tank and then aged for 10 months on its lees (with stirring) in French oak barrels in order to create a complex, nuanced effort. We hope you love it as much as we do!",

The finish is long, mouthwatering, and alive—everything a living, breathing wine should be. Vineyard Terroir Grown in the cooler microclimate of Portico Hills within Santa Barbara County AVA, the vineyard enjoys the moderating influence of ocean breezes, which enhance the aromatic expression and finesse of the Cabernet Franc.
